Compatibility and Compliance:

TDSL take both accreditation and certification seriously in all areas of our business including:
- Sourcing reputable supplies of quality timber.
- Manufacturing competence and tolerances.
- Meeting and surpassing building regulation standards.
- Meeting and surpassing fire safety standards.
- Technical specification proficiency.
- Professional installation.

A critical responsibility
Effective fire protection of buildings, their contents and occupants is essential and, because correct specification, installation and maintenance are governed by building regulations and various British Standards, there is an overriding responsibility for all concerned to ensure compliance.

All TDSL doorsets conform to the fire performance evidence appropriate to their use (FD30, FD60, FD90 and FD120 rating) and carry third-party certification (details of all tests conducted in accordance in accordance with the requirements laid down by BS 476 Part 22. 1987 are available on request).

TDSL is also acutely aware of the needs for hardware to perform in a similar manner. To ensure that all of the component parts of the doorset work together, TDSL has fire tested and successfully achieved at FD30 and FD60, fire ratings for a series of critical ironmongery components to prove their suitability for fire performance.

Service Life and Durability

Service Life and Durability

A rigorous undertaking

Doors often need to perform a number of functions during their their service life. They may need to be fire resistant as well as an effective means of providing access between areas of a building.

In hospital wards and corridors, doors will be required to be used more frequently and be subject to more physical abuse, so it is vital that they are durable and able to continue to perform their everyday function as well as maintain their fire resistance and other required functions.

Following consultation with Chiltern Dynamics, TDSL undertook a series of full size rigorous tests Based on Chiltern's Classification for Service Life Test Programme to assess doorset durability performance for all categories up to severe duty. Performance against the test's characteristics allows classification terms of the doorset's duty relating to the sort of wear and tear typical of cross-corridor locations in Hospitals, Schools and large offices, with severe being the most demanding classification. The results and information gained from this testing programme will enable facilities management teams to evaluate, with real certainty, full service life costing's for doorset assemblies.

*The testing is based on the principles of prEN 12400 and incorporates elements from a number of British and European Standards (DD171: 1987, PAS 23: 1999, EN 1191, EN 1192 and prEN 12400:2002) It also utilizes the most demanding elements of a wide range of performance characteristics, including: vertical load, static torsion, soft, heavy and hard body impact, slamming (shut / open), closure against obstruction, resistance to jarring and vibration, abusive force on handles, operating forces and cycling (500,000 opening and closing cycles)

Timbmet Door Solutions

Timbmet Door Solutions

Soon after TDSL was founded (Timbmet Door Solutions Limited) it became very obvious that confusion, ignorance and negligence to fire safety in fire door products, was rife throughout the business. So much so that we began testing, for ourselves, the products that we were sourcing.

We realised particularly, that manufacturers fire test evidence could easily be invalidated when incorrect glazing, ironmongery, leaf re-sizing, frame specification and intumescent products become part of the equation.

As a distributor of products that could be effected in this way we felt we had an additional and very serious responsibility to our customers and therefore undertook fire tests of our own (through Chiltern International Fire) to extend existing manufacturers evidence. We very quickly created a bank of Timbmet Doors generated fire test reports and global assessments.

We embraced the idea of independent third-party certification and believe we were one step ahead of other suppliers when the UK Government amended Building Regulations - Approved Document B to Include its recommendation that a third-party certified fire door assembly should always be used.

Today the list of Timbmet Door Solutions products with independent third-party certification is comprehensive and growing daily.
